Food Blog

Because I've had so little to do all summer I've been experimenting greatly with food and flavors, thus I made a food blog www.cookiesfoodblog.blogspot.com to document the things I try =] Umm... yeah that's about it.
I have class in less than four hours and I've still got to finish some of the goddamned homework, it's just I can't take the class that seriously because the people there are so dumb.
Not much to say really, nothing eventful has happened at all. I'm craving natto though... lol

All by my lonesome lol

Mum, Eddie and Monika have already left... and so now I'm dwindling away my summer without doing anything productive.
Yesterday was dad's birthday, I made him two two-tiered chocolate and strawberry cakes that said "Dad," (1st cake) "Happy Birthday" (2nd cake) in Chinese though. The stupid thing was the first time I was icing "dad" I put "grandpa" instead, I don't know if it was because the two characters are similar or because the 7th is also my grandpa's birthday.
Tomorrow's Eddie's birthday and I must admit I kinda miss the little bugger, he was interesting to have around. We could at least be bored together in the summer holidays.
To be honest I also miss mum... sure it's only been a few days but I miss the family feeling. The only part that I'm not too keen to re-live is the constant bickering and yelling that is ever so present when mum's around (not that it's entirely her fault, we all attribute and contribute equally to the scream-fest).
The icing on the cake was that they took the Wii... which includes taking guitar hero... thus I have no pointless gaming systems to occupy my time either -sigh-.
I thought Summer vacation was meant to be exciting?
SAT prep course starts this Saturday - kill me please. I *was* gonna go to Tristan's parent's wedding renewal on the 18th but dad being dad would not allow me to go to Boston and stay the night and an awesome hotel because of some guy's parent's re-wedding.
I honestly have nothing at all planned for these holidays... perhaps I should do some summer work? Can't be bothered yet.
I tried to be productive today. I started on a 20x24' canvas, it's of a girl/woman standing on a decrepit wood-plank wharf that leads out to a grey lake. The reference pic I got from dA... it's rather a gloomy and depressing painting but oh well, at least I'm doing something.
Then at around 7 I started making dinner... so because I wanted to be productive I made a nice big ensemble with lots of different things. But dad's not home yet and it's now 8:50.
So there's a 5-6 person dinner sitting on the table (covered just in case bugs decide to help themselves to it) and here I am typing this boring and pointless blog.
Will go upstairs where there is AC and my bed in a sec.
Peace, <3, and missing all

Canada

Holidays with the family just keep seeming pretty uneventful.
Eddie and mum are leaving to go to China this Friday (4th = independence day lol)... I don't know for how long, maybe just the summer, maybe forever. My parents never seem to be able to make up their minds... I guess it's hereditary haha.
Canada was pretty boring tbh, met mum's highschool friend, the highschool friend's husband and son Jay... he was pretty boring too :s although he did make me think.
He's half a year younger than me yet he's been in a relationship for two years... is the commitment phobia wired into my system??? Ugh... the 18 hour car ride (there and back) gave me a lot of time to think and I've been thinking bout this past year, all the people I've met, all the lives I've influenced and have influenced me... and yet I can't seem to forget about one certain guy. Maybe it's because he was the first, maybe it's because I'm still bitter, maybe it's because I really did love him, who knows? I have to get over this yet again... Maybe it's just because it's that time of the year? haha... *don't shoot me guys, I know this is stupid*
So Tristan's invited me to his parent's vow renewal (which is like a second wedding which I think is pretty cool), so I get to go up to Boston on the 18th and spend a night there =D fun stuff.
Umm... there's also the SAT prep courses... ew... and some party sometime in the next fortnight... ahh I don't know, facebook helps me organize dates and stuff haha.
Gotta go eat.
Pce & <3.

Last final

So after months of working hard (hahahahahaha... yeah right) on the SAT, SATIIs, ACTs, and finals, I have my last one tmrw - Latin (uh oh...) and yes it is 7pm the night before and yes, I have not started studying. Ahh well... there are more important things on my mind.
Actually that's a lie, my mind is pretty much blank sans the constant sexual thoughts and by sexual thoughts I mean cookies, but it's still constant =]
Anyhow... I think a storm is approaching, I can hear the thunder and almost smell the rain...
I don't really know how I'm spending this summer, I have summer work to do for AP classes and I've found a badminton club to play with (kinda), dad want's me to take an SAT prep course, and I'm getting my drivers permit just so I can practise driving and get my full liscence in March next year.
Mmm... let's hope this summer is good fun.
Blog, fill me in about what you kids are up to.
Much love <3

In memory of 5.12

I may have grown up overseas but I know where my roots are and they've been re-dug from all the news and media around the earthquake of 5.12.
Despite being thousands of kilometres away from all the hurt and destruction, having the internet and television makes it all very real. All the thousands risking their lives to save the few who are still alive underneath all that rubble, trying to unearth all the bodies of those they cannot save but wish to return to their loved ones anyway.
And yes media likes hyperbolize all these emotions but truly, imagine that at this very moment you are one of those people wondering if they'll ever see their loved ones again. Imagine you're a mother who couldn't save her children even though they were in the next room.
The earthquake struck around 2:30pm on May 12th, a time when many students are settled into their classrooms in the midst of afternoon classes. There was a teacher who yelled at his students to get out as soon as he felt the desks start to shake, however he realized there wasn't enough time for everyone to escape so he hoarded the few remaining students under some desks and wrapped himself around them. There were four students, they all survived. He did not.
Sure we see all this destruction in the world as well, people killing people etc. but it's the stories like these that give hope to the human race, it shows that there's kindness and good and self-sacrifice in the midst of all the destruction. A thought that is definitely comforting.
Something like this draws us away from our own everyday problems for a bit and make us focus on the big picture, so what if we didn't get the right brand of shoes for christmas; so what if we still have to take the bus to school instead of driving; so what if it's raining and we can't go to the park? None of these things seem to matter when we see how much these people have lost; their homes, their family, their lives.
Although destruction to this level is excessive and terrible, it also helps us realize a bit that the world doesn't revolve around us and I think that realization is something all of us need once in a while.

Busy May

You know how sometimes you feel a little over-whelmed by all the things going on in your life? All the assignments to finish, all the people and their dramas, yadayadayada... well the start of May is one of those times for me.
Stupid registrations to fill out, SATs this saturday, registering for the ACTs and SAT IIs, huge-ass assignments for all classes, prom... bloody hell... administration really has to organize things better so that it's spread out throughout the year and not clumped together at the end of it (the school year that is).
Aside from the hectic schedule, everything is good =] the dwarves are leaving soon for internships and then college, they shall be sorely missed. There really isn't a big enough collection of intelligence left in the school once they graduate.
Just a quick post today, gotta fill my head mainly with SAT crap...

More baking...

I was pissed today for several reasons... my parents wouldn't take me to NYC to get a haircut, nor would they get me a hamster as compensation, nor would they let me go to the mall to hang out with ppl... so in rebellion I made a big dinner and baked all afternoon (defying their wishes of me studying =p).

Okay soooo the stuffs I made (teehee):

1. peanut butter and chocolate chip muffins with tri-color frosting

2. peanut butter cookies

3. brownies

4. Salmon stuffed with crabmeat seasoned with garlic, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, baked on a bed of parsley and seasoned with cracked pepper and salt

5. 4 layer combination of bean sprouts, chinese cabbage, shanghai bok choi, potatoes, lamb, mu er, seaweed knots, shitake mushrooms, korean starch noodles, seasoned with lots of chili and spring onions and salt and stuffs. =]

I think thats it :s...

Cupcakes...

So I made cupcakes... and I've never made cupcakes before and the stupid recipe told me to mix the butter and flour first so I got lumps... god dammit, stupid recipe. So I spent like two hours getting the lumps out of these cupcakes. They still don't taste too good but I frosted them and they look alright =] See how PC I am? I make white cupcakes and black cupcakes =D Tristan would be proud lol
